This is going to be a slightly different review than usual, it’s about cat games. More to the point it’s about hidden cat games.

As people on my discord will know recently I’ve been going to various appointments regarding my Long COVID diagnosis and learning how to deal with it, one of these recently was a Well-Being course. This includes learning to relax and take your time but also find something that helps you switch off and not be worrying about what has happened and what will happen.

This has lead to me trying to find games that are relaxing, with no pressure that I can switch off to. Funnily enough the keyword seems to have been CATS. The majority of these are free, some fully free and others have paid for DLC.

Gameplay

This wouldn’t be a proper review if I didn’t at least review the gameplay of these games.

The cats are hiding, you need to find them, quite simple really.

Some of the games are really simple and can be completed in less than 5 minutes, allowing them to be played for a quick burst when you just need something to relax and switch off. Others may take longer with a couple of them having taken me over an hour. Each of these have been unique in a way, be that the setting, the graphics style, or the sound effects.

Controls

You use your mouse to pan around an image and click on cats. In most of these you can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel as well which can make it easier to find them.

Graphics

The graphics for most of these are really simple, with hand drawn cats hidden on a background image, that is usually a line drawing of some sort of environment.

For example Cats Hidden in Paris is a line drawing of Paris including the Eiffel tower, and 100 Asian Cats are in what appears to be Japan.

Audio

Most of these have little to no audio, some basic background music and either a ping or, and this is better, a meow when finding a cat.

Final Thoughts

If anyone is looking for any game they can just switch off and play, with no pressure but plenty of reward then just do a search for CATS in steam and organise by price, most of the free ones are of this style.

There’s also an extra bonus for a lot of these games. Each cat you find is a Steam achievement so you get a nice reward at the end when you get the popups appearing.
